On Saturday, something special took shape at Mount Maunganui Reserve. EVES Real Estate, in partnership with the Cancer Society and Tauranga City Council, brought Memory Meadows to life, a community initiative designed to honour loved ones affected by cancer, while raising funds for vital support services across the Bay of Plenty.
The concept was simple. For a $5 donation, attendees received a handful of daffodil bulbs and the opportunity to plant them in memory of someone close to them. The goal was to create a field, one that, in time, will bloom as a powerful symbol of remembrance, hope, and community.
What unfolded on the day was something far more meaningful than just planting flowers. From early morning, people began arriving, quietly, respectfully, each carrying their own story. While every experience was different, there was a shared understanding that connected everyone present.
Some came to honour loved ones lost. Others stood in support of those still fighting. Many carried both.
Throughout the morning, moments of reflection and connection unfolded across the reserve. Conversations were gentle. Names were spoken with care. And while there was an undeniable sense of loss, there was also strength and a quiet resilience that ran through the crowd. It was a reminder that behind every story is a person, a family, and a community.
By the end of the event, thousands of daffodil bulbs had been planted, each one representing a life, a memory, or a message of hope. In the months ahead, these will bloom into a field of yellow, aligning with Daffodil Day and serving as a visible reminder of the impact of cancer, and the importance of coming together in support.
As the leading real estate agency in the Bay of Plenty, EVES is proud to support initiatives that bring our community together in meaningful ways. Memory Meadows is a reflection of that commitment, not just to the places we live, but to the people who make them home.
We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and supported the event. Your contributions will help ensure the Cancer Society can continue providing essential care and services to those who need it most.
We look forward to seeing Memory Meadows come to life in the months ahead.
